Presidents Welcome
In 1959 a group of Ascot State Primary Schoolgirls, along with their President and Coach, Eileen Grealy and school headmaster and Patron Bob Meibusch, decided to form a club to participate in fixtures at the newly established venue at Downey Park, and so Ascot District Women’s Hockey Club was born. They played in the school uniform (blue tunics) and trained at Crosby Park. All members by unwritten agreement pledged themselves to keep alive the sporting spirit that had, by example of their headmaster, guided their school activities. In our first season we had three teams, B grade and 2 juniors – gaining 2nd, 4th and 5th positions. By the next year our top team was in A reserve and took out the premiership with a 3rd in C grade and a 2nd for the Junior team. A good start! Our club colours changed back in the 80’s to be predominately red/navy as there were so many other clubs with blue. Our club colours still remain red shirt, skirt and navy socks.

Over the years we have grown to having four turf teams from Division 1 to 4 and four grass teams being DP1,2, 4 and 5 and two Monday Masters teams in Division 1 and 2. Our club over the years has had mixed results in the competition but always looking to improve and always looking to accommodate new players whether they are new to the game or coming back from retirement, having families or just decided to start playing again.

We have been honored to have players from our club that have represented Brisbane, Queensland and Australia. Our current Queensland/Australian players are Natasha Hayes, Megan Houghton, Lyn Hill, Teresa Kuss and Karin Walduck. Our current Queensland/Australian Officals are Lynn Cowie-McAllister, Heather Evans, Jenny Heron and Lyn Hill.

Our turf teams train at the State Hockey Centre, Colmslie and our grass teams train at Olearia Street, Everton Hills.
